The purpose is to help bring about positive change in how the UK approaches the hiring of people with disabilities.
Estimates tell us that almost 1 in 4 people in the UK declare a disability, that people with disabilities are almost twice as likely to be unemployed, and three times as likely to be economically inactive. Hiring and employment needs to be fair for all. There must be urgency in bringing this about and lived experience is essential in changing the way the UK works.
The Better Hiring Institute, its collaborators and employer network, have come together to help get Britain working, to help eliminate the current barriers and challenges facing people with disabilities, and to harness the great potential that exists in supporting people into and remaining in work.
The guidance brings together leading UK experts and UK government, working in collaboration with Reed Screening, Disability Rights UK, BASE (The British Association of Supported Employers), BT Group, TUI, and King’s College London amongst wider endorsement from various parliamentarians including Lord Holmes and Lord Shinkwin.
